Alberto was found with birth defects by a breeder who didn't want to sell him (good) but also didn't want to be bothered with the responsibility of this animal for his life (bad).
Alberto's left eye is malformed and he likely doesn't see out of it. However, he is able to catch insects and easily finds his fruit so he's actually an easy keeper as a pet.
