Ball pythons (Python regius) are native to central and western Africa and are one of the most popular pet snakes worldwide. They are named for their defensive behavior of curling into a tight ball when stressed. Adults reach 3-5 feet and can live 20-30 years in captivity. Their docile nature and manageable size make them excellent pets. They are generally calm and rarely bite.
