Red-eared sliders (Trachemys scripta elegans) (RES) are semi-aquatic turtles native to the southern United States. They are named for the distinctive red stripe behind their eyes. These turtles can live 30-40 years and grow to 8-12 inches, requiring significant long-term commitment. While popular, they need large aquatic setups and proper filtration. Best suited for dedicated intermediate keepers willing to invest in proper equipment.
